The sacred space dedicated to enslaved sculptures has become a site for personal reflection, prayers and pilgrimage. People of African descent have requested and have been given the opportunity to use the space for personal and spiritual experiences; spreading of loved one’s ashes, prayers and reflection, meditation and also to have memorial portraits of their loved ones included.
African spiritual experiences are varied and cut across many religions and religious practices.
Nkyinkyim Museum requests your patience in scheduling these personal and private experiences for you in a manner that is both respectful to you and your transitioned family. Thank you.
Nsiso/Nsodie
Nkyinkyim is also known for Nsiso/Nsodie; funerary portraits created in memory of enslaved ancestors. The funerary sculptures include portraits of Africans in the Diaspora who have shared their likeness in memory of their enslaved ancestors as well as portraits of their loved ones who have transitioned.
The Nsiso/Nsodie funerary sculptures, tradition and the related therapy for people of African descent is ongoing at the museum and invites guests interested in and descended from the African Diaspora can arrange to have their portrait sculptures made (realistic or stylised) and added to the enslaved space of Nkyinkyim Museum.
As an ever evolving Museum, Kwame Akoto-Bamfo and his Osramba Studio team, together with other creatives and researchers exploring the African Diaspora add new artworks to the museum space frequently.
