As an outdoor museum, it is advisable to plan ahead to enjoy the best possible experience. We advise wearing comfortable walking shoes. Please remain hydrated throughout your visit, and consider bringing a hat or fan. Water and snacks are available for purchase at our Museum Gift Shop. Guests are encouraged to enjoy a variety of free and paid enrichment programming. Please book individual and group-based creative therapy, pilgrimages, naming ceremonies, and professional learning in advance. Our workshops are individual or group-based. All ages and abilities are welcome.
Griot-led Tour – Explore African culture and history through the eyes of a living tradition bearer also known as a griot. A griot is a traditional West African storyteller, musician, and historian who passes on knowledge through the oral tradition by sharing stories and explaining the meaning of museum artifacts and monuments.This immersive cultural experience is a 90 minute walking tour through the museum space. Please note that shoes are removed before entering the Sacred Area. (100 GHC for adults, 30 GHC for students)
Clay Art Workshop – Explore traditional African pottery techniques, craft Nsiso funerary portraits, and express cultural narratives through sculptural art. Clay firing services are available for a fee upon request. (100 GHC per person)
Soap Carving Art Workshop – Grab a bar of soap, sketch your design, and start carving away with simple tools – kind of like sculpting mini masterpieces. It’s relaxing and satisfying to see your design come to life. (100 GHC per person)
Storytelling Workshop – Learn and share traditional African stories, myths, and legends, using techniques like oral narration, music, and dance. You might explore Anansi tales, Akan proverbs, or other local storytelling traditions. Our 60 minute workshops are individual or group based. (50 GHC per person)
Drumming and Dance Workshop – Learn traditional rhythms and dance moves like Agbadza, Borborbo, Kpanlogo, and others that tell stories or convey messages. We also use local instruments like the djembe or atunpan drums to create these rhythms. (Free every Friday-Sunday)
Pilgrimage – A pilgrimage experience is designed for guests who seek spiritual growth, blessings, or connection with history. Pilgrims wear white, walk barefoot, offer prayers, or leave tokens, and immerse themselves in the site’s energy. Pilgrimage Tours include a welcome ceremony, museum tour, creative art therapy, time of reflection, and lunch. (Requires booking in advance – 700 GHC per person)
Renaming Ceremony – Guests who wish to reconnect with their African heritage are invited to participate in a traditional renaming ceremony facilitated by a local chief. Renaming ceremonies involve traditional rites and rituals including prayers and pouring libations. Participants are given an African name, symbolizing a return to roots and embracing a new identity. (Requires booking in advance – prices vary)
Rites of Passage – Young adults are invited into an initiation experience where they take on a variety of challenging tasks facilitated by the local chief, in preparation for adulthood. Rites of Passage usually take one week to complete. Adults who have not gone through initiation are welcomed. Activities include tent camping, hunting, fishing, building structures, cooking, prayers, and traditional rites and rituals. (Requires booking in advance – 3500 GHC per person)
Creative Art Therapy – Creative art therapy is a non-clinical creative art experiences that nurture healing and growth. Our Creative Art Therapy Sessions use the creative processes of art-making to help youth, individuals, couples, and work teams explore their emotions, resolve conflicts, foster self-awareness, process grief and loss, and develop coping mechanisms for dealing with stress and anxiety, navigating personal loss, processing trauma, or exploring self-awareness. No prior art training is required. (Requires booking in advance – 200 GHC per person)
Prayers – We offer prayers by pouring libations and seeking guidance or blessings. Prayers are led by a chief, elder, or spiritual leader, invoking ancestors and expressing gratitude or needs. They are a communal, soulful experience, often including rhythmic chants, drumming, singing, creating a spiritual presence. (Requires booking in advance – Free, donations accepted)
Memorial Service – Family and friends are invited to gather to honor the departed with traditional rituals, music, and storytelling. Memorial services include evening Wake Keeping (Yesipe) and a Celebration of Life (Gbonyo Party) the evening prior. The morning program includes traditional rites and rituals, a processional to the Sacred Area, testimonials and singing, and a photo montage honoring the deceased. Loved ones are invited to commission an Nsiso funerary portrait to place with or without ashes in the Sacred Area. More elaborate memorial services include the Asante Dirge singers from the Ashanti Region. (Requires booking in advance – prices vary)
Enjoy a freshly cooked meal from our on-site Kpatashie Green Diet Restaurant serving a rotating menu of local Ghanaian dishes. Daily Specials include:
Mondays – red-red and plantain
Tuesdays – banku with pepper and fish
Wednesdays – groundnut soup and rice balls
Thursdays – banku and okro soup
Fridays – waakye with egg and gari
Saturdays – Jollof Rice with chicken or fish
Sundays – Friend Rice with chicken or fish.
Coconut rice and yam chips with chicken or fish are served daily along with baked goods, snacks, and beverages. Please pre-order your meal for timely service. Walk-in guests are encouraged to order lunch before 11 AM. Kpatashie Green Diet Restaurant is closed for walk-in guests on Mondays and Tuesdays. (100 GHC each)
Groups of 10 guests or more are invited to enjoy our buffet-style lunch. We serve coconut rice, jollof rice, chicken, fish, and plantain with sobolo and water in a family style setting. (150 GHC per person)
You’re invited to bring your own lunch, grab a spot under the trees, lay down a mat, and dig into your favorite Ghanaian bites – maybe some kelewele, groundnuts, or waakye. Spend the day on site and use our washrooms and facilities. We’ll add the tunes and good company. (30 GHC per person)

Our 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom Loft House includes a fully equipped kitchen and living room area. Our Residency Block includes eight air-conditioned rooms with either two single beds or one double bed. Two rooms are wheelchair accessible. Our Camping Site includes single and double-occupancy tents and access to public restrooms and showers. Linens are provided for all accommodations except tents. Breakfast is free with all overnight stays. Nkyinkyim Museum maintains a 24-hour security presence. Our facilities are non-smoking.

Trotro stations to Ada: Lapaz, Madina, Tudu-Accra, Tema, Ashaiman
1. Board a trotro heading to Aflao, Sogakope, Ada from the above locations.
2. Inform the driver or the driver’s mate you will alight at Hwakpo junction Ada.
3. Pick up a motorbike from Hwakpo junction to Nkyinkyim Museum; exactly 2 km from Hwakpo junction.
If you're traveling from Accra, head east towards Tema and take the Aflao Road exit. Follow the Aflao Road for approximately 45 kilometers until you reach the Ada Foah Junction. Take a right turn onto the Ada Foah Road and continue for another 10 kilometers until you reach Nuhalenya.
If you're traveling from Aflao, head west on the Aflao Road and turn left at the Ada Foah Junction. Continue on the Ada Foah Road for approximately 10 kilometers until you reach Nuhalenya.
